Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Animal Friends Humane Society!
Volunteers are the heart of AHFS, making it possible for us to care for animals and support our community every single day. Your time, compassion, and dedication truly change lives, both for the animals we serve and the people who love them.
Volunteer Hours:
- Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 9 am – 4:30 pm
- Wednesday & Thursday: 9 am – 6 pm
There is no required schedule, but we recommend committing to at least four hours per month for the best experience.
To ensure all volunteers understand who we are and how we operate, join us at a volunteer orientation to get started.

- Capacity: Orientations are limited to 25 volunteers per session
What's happens after orientation?
- You’ll be paired with a mentor volunteer for your first day
- This one-on-one support helps you get comfortable interacting with our animals
- After your mentored shift, you’re free to volunteer on your own schedule
What You’ll Need to Attend Orientation
- A signed Volunteer Application is required to participate
- Please print and bring the signed application with you to orientation
Need proof of volunteer hours for school?
Requests for official letterhead must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to orientation to: afhsvolunteers@bcohio.gov
Important Notes
- Volunteers must be at least 16 years old
- We are unable to have volunteers under 16, even with a parent present.
- Court-ordered community service is temporarily suspended
- We are still able to support school-required community service hours
- Orientation dates are released one month at a time
- All orientations are held in person at the shelter
