Cash's Recovery Story

From Cash to Lt. Dan

Cash, a stray dog who came to us from Fairfield, found his way to us with a painful injury to his front leg. After X-rays, we discovered the heartbreaking cause of his suffering: Cash had been shot.

Following consultations with our veterinary and clinic teams, it became clear that amputation was the best path forward to give Cash the pain-free, happy future he deserved. While it wasn't the outcome anyone hoped for, Cash has shown us just how resilient and remarkable dogs can be.

Thanks to the support of our community, we quickly found a medical foster home where Cash could recover with the extra care, comfort, and monitoring he needed. Since then, he has flourished.

His foster family described him as incredibly smart, perfectly house-trained, and full of personality. He loves puzzle toys, plenty of snacks, and all the attention he can get. Most importantly, Cash adapted beautifully to life on three legs. He runs, plays, explores, and embraces every day with joy. In fact, if no one told you he was missing a leg, you'd probably never know.

And even more wonderful news. Cash's foster family adopted him and he will now be known as Lt. Dan.

His new family includes a firefighter wife and a police officer husband who were looking for a special way to honor the memory of their beloved dog who recently passed away. What began as a desire to help a dog in need quickly turned into something much more. The entire family, including the kids and resident dogs, fell in love instantly with Lt. Dan's charming personality, resilient spirit, and incredible capacity to trust and love despite everything he had endured.
